Our Wedding

it went by fast, but it was a blast!  i didn't mean for that to rhyme, but that's what i really felt!

what i remember:
  • the beautiful weather - we were so blessed!
  • listening from my bedroom window as eugene and his groomsmen endured the various door games my brilliant bridesmaids came up with.  my personal favorite - GRANNY PANTIES!  can't wait to see those pics!
  • all of my family members arriving late for the tea ceremony - that's probably the only time that day that i was frustrated
  • our photo shoot in chinatown and a lot of people just staring, but i had a good time...especially that pee step in front of the old st. mary's.  i would have never thought of those steps that way until jennice mentioned it.
  • the limo driver hitting our photographer's car.....less than 5 minutes after eugene proudly announced "everything's going great!!"  sorry JS!
  • the "27 dresses moment" with my BMs - thanks for holding that dress ladies!  i will gladly hold each of yours when your time comes
  • taking a bite of hakeem's awesome finger sandwiches 5 minutes before walking down the aisle and having bread totally stuck to the back of my teeth.  i had such a hard time getting that out!  haha.
  • fighting tears down the aisle with both my parents at my side
  • fighting tears through eugene's vows and thinking how his were so much better than mine
  • semi-chaos during family pictures
  • wishing i had more time to mingle with everyone during cocktail hour
  • losing eugene on the way to cocktail hour...lol.
  • eugene and i scarfing down the cheese and fruit from the cheese display in the mezannine while waiting to be introduced to the reception
  • my MOH giving a shout-out to my co-workers.  i looked over towards their table and every single one of my co-workers looked like they wanted to hide from embarassment.
  • being nervous and unable to eat until after the father/daughter dance
  • being relieved that the ahi tuna turned out the way i'd hoped
  • the shoe game
  • cake cutting hehe
  • trying not to cry during our thank you remarks and then remembering that i had so much more to say to my family and BMs after our speech was over
  • saying goodbye to many of our guests soon after the cake was served....i wish more stayed to dance!  but that's ok.  the bridal party had a good time tearing up the floor and dancing to music we used to hear in high school and early college.
  • scarfing down all of hakeem's fruit and finger sandwiches in our hotel room, aftering pulling about 50 hairpins out of my head
i already had multiple questions re: babies just at my wedding alone.  uh...i'm just gonna enjoy married life for awhile.  you can't hire planners for kids like you can a wedding.  life doesn't change much after getting married.  it's life after kids that scare me.

can't wait to see how all the pictures turn out!!  if you have pictures, send them our way!

Where Did the Time Go?

i can't believe it's almost halfway through the year.  i received 4 invitations of various kinds in the mail today - 2 weddings, a bridal shower and a red egg ginger party.

holy cow.  it's gonna be a busy summer.

in other news, my brain is once again fried for the cfa exam.  the good thing is it's not for level 1 anymore, but  rather for level 2.  the bad thing is i'm 99% sure i'll be doing this again next year as i haven't committed half the time needed to study for the darn thing this year.

ahhhhhh!  is this how i'll spend the rest of my 20s???  studying for the first six months of the year and going to weddings/bridal showers/birthday parties for the other six months of the year????

totally itching to travel...

and this is probably a random a post as it'll get.

done procrastinating.  back to the books.

Childhood Memories

i was walking along taraval to go to my oral surgery appointment today and saw a sign that said 5 cent copies.  it brought back a flood of memories with my grandfather.  he used to pick me up at 3:30 from school and we'd take the 44 line and get off at 6th and clement...that is if we didn't oversleep and take it all the way to the last stop at 6th and california.  i now know where i get my ability to sleep anywhere and anytime!  anyways, after getting off the stop, we'd walk the four blocks to his place on 2nd avenue.  often times, we would stop at this one little mom and pop store that had a copy machine.  i can't remember what the store sold.  all i can remember is the same 5 cent sign i saw today that was also in the window of that store.

i don't know what my grandfather had to photocopy, but i always thought it was so fun to help him.  the only times i wished he didn't have something to photocopy was when i really wanted to go home to watch my afternoon cartoons.  after photocopying, we'd get back to his place and my grandma would usually have some sort of snack ready for me to eat before doing homework.  but to be honest, the snacks i remember best aren't the ones my grandma made.  not that her food wasn't good.  her sticky rice is still the best ever, but i loved it even more when my grandfather made soup noodles for me.  it would always have chicken and bok choy.  and it was delicious, especially if it was cold outside.  it's probably also because of my grandfather that to this day, i love love love love LOVE soup noodles and can have it anywhere and anytime.  i've eaten at french laundry twice and feel the food is excellent, but given a choice, i would take my grandfather's soup noodles over french laundry any day.

all these memories made me teary-eyed, as i thought about how much i miss my grandfather and his quirkiness.  he wore sneakers with his suits LONG before it ever was a fashion statement!  and he did it in style too!  i've had many of these moments lately...moments where i just reminisce about the past, my family, my friends and my roots.  i'm not sure why...perhaps it's because this is such a pivotal year in my life, getting married and all.  i miss him lots, but i know he's still very much alive in my heart and in my family.
